What is the difference between satori and nirvana

Seek answers in meditation. Consider everything, accept nothing as final. By the way, Jesus was not a Christian, he was a Jewish Rabbi. After his death his diciples met to begin organizing the teaching of his faith. One of the issues they considered was whether or not gentiles should be allowed to be Christians.

They were all against it, except for Peter who said that no one should be barred from the faith. None of them considered that Christianity would be a religion outside the Jewish faith, but it has evolved that way.

The Buddha probably never considered that Buddhism would be a religion outside of the Hindu faith, but it has evolved that way. Buddhism has absolutely nothing to do with Hinduism, on the part of Buddhism.

Though on the part of Hinduism, it was enfluenced by Buddhism and some traditions even go on to believe that Buddha was an avatar of Vishu some even think he came to earth to trick people. The Buddha shunned any metaphysical speculation, and Hinduism is completely based on it. The Buddha's teaching has nothing to do with Hindu teachings; Gautama gave no belief system, he taught how to escape suffering, nothing more.

I know of none. Thats okay. I understand why I "know of none". But clearly you do not understand. I had a great mass of knowledge before I came to understand, and then pooof!! In an instant all of my precious knowledge was gone.

I still have the understanding, which is enough. So now I feel like the man who had but a single understanding, having lost his other shoe. I think you were closer when you said "obviously there is existence", before you muddled it up with logic.

One day Yao-shan Wei-yen , one of the well-known Chinese Ch'an master, was asked by the host of the monastery to give his sermon to the assembly who for a long while was expecting his teaching. Yao-shan said: "Strike the bell. Posted on Aug. In books, I have come across the term "satori" I could be wrong on this which was defined as seeing into ones buddha nature. It seems to me that this is very similar to the concept of nirvana.

However, I can't understand why two different terms would be necessary for this same concept. And if they are different, what the difference is. Thankyou for your time. Reply from Don.. Ex Aug. I believe "satori" is the Buddhist term, while "nirvana" is the Hindu term. Same thing otherwise, or so I have been told by someone knowledgeable about Hindu practices. Topic closed! Basically everything you've said is wrong. Reply from Don. Taoism is a mystical philosophy that emphasizes the purity of the moment, whereas the Hindu roots of Indian Buddhism lend a longer view toward escaping the Karmic prison of perpetual reincarnation in the material world.

Reply from Komencanto Aug. Thankyou very much everyone for your responses. I really appreciate that are people out there willing to share their knowledge. Reply from Woodsman Aug. Except Satori wasn't named after a grunge band. Reply from ZenWeirdo Sep. Ex Sep. Quote: " Quote: " " Reply from Woodsman Sep.

Everything is impermanent and changing 2. Impermanence leads to suffering, making life imperfect 3. All life involves suffering the Truth of Suffering 2.

Satori refers to a deep, abiding insight in which someone sees and understands the true nature of the universe and of reality itself. Satori is a demonic bird-like creature that appears in the Naruto: Shippuden film, Naruto 5: Blood Prison. Satori has been around since the age of the Sage of Six Paths and that Satori is just a puppet of the Box.

Satori is growth by awakening. They are insights that happen suddenly and change you forever. If your destination is Zimbabwe or South Africa, take into account that Zulu is the most widely spoken and understood language. This does not mean that Zulu is dying but it is, in fact, a living adapting language because in place of the older vocabulary it is incorporating words from English and modern technology to make it more practical and useable. Gciriku and Yei, which are Bantu languages of Botswana and Namibia, have incorporated the four-click Khoisan system, but Zulu and Xhosa also Bantu languages have incorporated only three clicks.

There are many types of satori. One of them is short and others are permanent. I like to think that short term satoris are some kind of spiritual ecstasy where you have the feeling of inter-connection with the rest of creation and a deep understanding of your own life. A more permanent Satori would be an enlightenment like the Buddha had, a permanent one and as long as his is alive, he become a Bodhisattva. Upon his death, the enlightened being decides if he wants to go to Nirvana which is really the cessation of the cycle of rebirth and suffering or come back again to save others.

So, basically, Satori is attainable while you are alive and Nirvana is where you go after you die, if you attain Buddha-hood permanent enlightenment. Join in and write your own page!
