Can you freeze quince
Avoid quinces that are soft, shriveled, or bruised. Quince will keep for several weeks if refrigerated. If stored at room temperature, the quince will deteriorate after 1 week. Wrap quinces in paper towels to avoid bruising. The quince, like the pear, does not ripen well on the tree. To ripen a quince, place it in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight for a few days and turn it occasionally. Before using, rinse quince lightly to remove the felt-like fuzz.
Peel the quince with a vegetable peeler or knife before using in jams, preserves, desserts, or savory dishes. Scoop out the seed cavity using a melon baller. To avoid discoloration once peeled, place peeled quince in water with lemon juice until ready to cook. Quince must be cooked before eating.
After coring and peeling, cook quince as you would an apple. Cooked quince has a sweet, delicate, slightly musky flavor. Quince flesh turns salmon-colored after cooking. Flavor partners. Quince facts and trivia. From now on regulate the heat so that the water comes slowly to the boil and the fruit barely simmers. Depending on the heat I do this for 1 or 2 hours or until they start showing signs of softening. With my quinces, Meech's Prolific, I stop when the skins start splitting or else they quickly disintegrate, which must not happen.
So whatever you do watch them while they very, very gently simmer away and remove them from the heat when softened but still whole. At this stage I leave them to cool in the pan until next day. When cool lift the quinces from the cooking water and, if you are short of time, pop them in the freezer as they are. Or else quarter them and remove the cores, this can now be done almost effortlessly compared with the raw fruit.
