1000 steps where is it how to get there

Hard hike, nice views. Cannot imagine that workers climbed those steps everyday. Great trail. Great views from the top. A little hard to find due to limited parking but definitely worth the effort.

This one has been on my bucket list for a while. Was in the area so I jumped at the chance. The hike up the stone steps is no joke. Just take your time and you will make it. Be sure to check out the views at the top. I think coming down was actually tricker and harder on my legs. Plenty of landing areas to rest at. Continue on standing stone trail for more trail and views. Wouldn't recommend for children, but for adults absolutely!! Thisis trail gives you just enough of a good sweat to feel like you worked hard and at the end you get a beautiful view!

Beautiful views and fun place to explore. We tried but both in our 60s with tender knees We made it up 3 sets of man made stairs and decided we should head back down. We both had our walking sticks and were sore the remainder if the night so I think we did the right thing. Be sure you have poles or craft a stick on the way down. Your knees will thank you for it! Beautiful first climb. A heart thumping great workout for me. Be sure to go right out to edge for about. Two big lookouts.

Lots of little ones. Really hard for this office employee but definitely worth it! We tried, we really did. We wanted to make it out and back early to beat the rain, which meant we were stupid and did not eat before. We made it about a quarter mile in before we decided it was not smart or continue and turned around. We will be back! Love this! It is quick and challenging but worth it for a nice view. Do it!

Plenty of parking available along 22 West. Awesome climb at your own speed, places to grab a break and a very clean location. Enjoy the up and back stepping stones with nature and a beautiful view at the top. Heads up,,,,wear good shoes because the climb down is hard in the toes, We are in our 60's and avid bicyclists, our legs handled the steps easily Check out Dinkys Shed, a stone building from the railroad days Great BBQ ribs at Woodys ten miles west on route 22,,, highly reccommend it!

The little former-mining towns of Mount Union and Mill Creek are at its base. Also, the Juniata River cuts this mountain in two and creates one of the more rugged and spectacular areas in the state, known as Jacks Narrows. You almost get a western feel standing at the trailhead as the two mountains rise nearly 2, feet above you on either side.

The Thousand Steps Trail is not something to be taken lightly. You can compare this venture as an hour and a half work-out on a stair master as you will definitely feel it in your legs once you reach the top. This mountain is also a geological wonder known for its fossils. There is petrified wood everywhere along this trail. Some of the actual steps themselves are made up of huge chunks of the fossils. This area was heavily mined from which is partially the reason for the unearthing of all these specatacular fossils.

Nature being nature, sometimes conditions can change at short notice. The Kokoda Trail Memorial Walk which incorporates the Steps is closed until due to storm damage. The Western tracks in Sherbrooke Forest are closed due to storm damage until The public toilets at Olinda Falls are closed at least until the end of , due to a major plumbing issue, Parks Victoria is working to resolve the matter as soon as possible.

We acknowledge that the toilets have already been closed for a lengthy period, however due to planning and operational constraints the toilet works have been significantly delayed. Officially the Kokoda Track Memorial Walk, walkers love the challenge of the steep trail, locals appreciate the convenience and tourists just want a picture of a gorgeous rainforest walk.

The Kokoda Track Memorial Walk incorporating the Steps departs from Ferntree Gully Picnic Ground, winding up a steep hill along a creek through lush rainforest, before emerging into a clearing where you can enjoy great views of Melbourne through the trees. Complete the loop by taking the Lyrebird Track back to the carpark. The path is steep and beautiful, which makes it attractive to fitness walkers and tourists however please leave your dog at home, as this walk is not for your pets.

The Standing Stone Trail continues up around the back of the dinkey shed, and a signpost at the back right corner directs you to the Mapleton Overlook 0. Many workers at the brick factories and quarries lived in Mapleton, and even today trains pass through, although they are no longer carrying ganister. A rail from the old train tracks marks the front edge of the Mapleton Overlook, a nod to its past.

From the top of the Steps, follow a blue-blazed trail east 0. From here you can simply backtrack to the top of the Steps and then descend the trail to Route 22 where you parked, covering roughly 3 miles of total distance if you hiked to the sites described here in the manner I suggested. That said, if you are an experienced winter hiker, the views from the top of the Steps are outstanding with a fresh blanket of snow!

To the east, Little Incline and Mount Union stand out even more with snow highlighting the contours in the terrain. The spectacular views and the historical nature of the trail and area around it make it an incredibly popular hike, more than 80 years after the steps were first constructed.

Just remember as you huff and puff your way to the top — the workers in the quarry did this every morning on their way to a long day of busting rocks and loading them onto railcars!
